ReplyDeleteFor this assignment, I read Movie Mayhem by Maddie Hedlund, Liv’s Adventures Through Chicago, and Siobhan’s Cereal Blog. I really liked Maddie’s blog because I am a huge fan of movies. I don’t always have time to go to the movie theater and there are many movies that I haven’t seen before, so it was really interesting to hear Maddie’s thoughts about a few flicks, such as Martian and If I Stay. Liv’s blog was entertaining because I really liked how it was designed. She used personal photos and fancy fonts to document her experiences in Chicago. Even though I had visited Chicago many times, she visited a lot of places that I haven’t been to before and I plan on going there the next chance I have. I also liked reading Siobhan’s blog about the different cereals she tested. I’ve eaten some of the cereals before so I could relate to the blog and I thought it was both funny and informational to hear her reviews about breakfast foods.
ReplyDeleteFor this week's reading blog, I read blog posts from Maddie Hedlund, Garrett Feiereisel, and Gabbi Sandoval. They each wrote about something different and interesting. Maddie wrote her blog about different movies that she watched, it found this entertaining to read because I have seen a lot of the movies that she mentioned in her blog so it was cool to see what she thought about each movie. I liked the way Maddie talked about the plot of each movie in an interesting way. Garrett wrote about trying out different restaurants and the things he ate at each place. I liked the way he described the atmosphere of each restaurant and went into detail about each meal. Gabbi’s blog was about listening to different songs and saying what she liked about them. I enjoyed this blog because I like to listen to new songs a lot and I appreciated her honesty when she was talking about the songs she did not end up liking. I really enjoyed reading all of these blogs, they are all unique to each person and they are all written in a personal way.
ReplyDeleteThe blog I chose to comment on is Julia Nieweem’s blog called Double Features. In her blog, she first watches a movie and its sequel, and then compares them. For example, she watched Pitch Perfect 1 and then Pitch Perfect 2, and talked about which one was better. I liked this blog a lot because if you seen a movie and you want to watch the second, you can see if it will actually be worth watching. I also liked her little summaries of each movie because I thought were very helpful to the reader. Her mini clips from the movie she watched were also insightful because they are almost a “preview” for the reader. This is similar to the summaries because it helps the reader know if they want to watch the movie. One thing I would change about her blog would be not ruining the ending for the reader. I also would mention to the reader if the movies were worth watching like almost a thumbs up thumbs down at the end of all the blogs. But overall, I really enjoyed reading her blog.
ReplyDeleteI read Jack Neal’s blog. I really enjoyed reading his blogs because I could relate to them somehow because I have two dogs of my own. Some of the reasons I liked reading this blog was because I liked how I could relate to his situation with the dogs, but I couldn’t relate to the fact that these dogs were reckless when it came to their puppy years. It was also interesting to see how much it took trying to contain these crazy dogs! From all of the stuff that they got themselves into, it was different for me because the dogs that my family has raised were not as reckless as his. It must be a pain to have to raise these dogs, but also such a reward because they are such cool dogs. This blog was very interesting to read as well as fun to read because it was cool to see how a different group of dogs grew up and to compare their tendies with the dogs that I have.
ReplyDeleteI read Ryan Bever's blog today about his travels through Germany. The thing I liked the most about his blogs were that they actually told a story. Throughout the different posts, there is a very unique viewpoint and perspective told about his travels throughout Germany which I found very interesting. Usually, I hate reading or hearing about travel because for whatever reason I find it very boring. My parents always like to watch these travel shows that I just find incredibly boring. For example, I dislike Rick Steves with a passion. However, Ryan's blog really engaged me and I wanted to read more. I really enjoyed it and thought it was very interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about Germany or who is planning on going to Germany.
ReplyDeleteToday I read Lindsey’s blog about trying different exercise classes at Xsport Fitness. I read it because I also have a membership to that gym, but I have been too nervous to try the classes in fear that they would be too difficult and I would make fun of myself. Seeing Lindsey write this blog has kind of inspired me as I see that I can go to these classes and do well while getting a good workout. The class that she talked about that I want to try the most is the step class because I like to feel sore after I work out to know that I actually did something good for my body and that was the one that made her feel the most sore the next day. Also, from this blog I learned that I probably do not want to try is the Pure Strength class because I do not have a good shoulder so I am not supposed to use weights. It would make a class that I would already struggle in that much more embarrassing if I could not use the same equipment that everyone else used. Without Lindsey writing this blog I would probably still be really nervous and reluctant about trying one of Xsport’s workout classes.
ReplyDeleteOverall I don’t much attention to professional sports at all. They just don’t really interest me, so I really don’t know is going on usually when my friends bring it up. Reading Tanner’s blogs I felt like I finally understood what at least half of what my friends were referencing too. He does an excellent job going over the Bears football games as a whole, giving every small detail on why they won or lost in that match. If you didn’t watch the game or really just have a minor interest in football these blogs are an excellent overview, just like an espn game overview. Overall I love that he gives and expands on the small details on what made or break the game for the Bears. Including the injuries and what players made a great impact on the game. He also gives an overview on the other team and what major plays they made in order to play as a major competition to the bears. Overall I really liked these blogs as they made me more knowledgeable in the game itself.
ReplyDeleteToday i read Carter olsen's blog post on the bears vs chargers game, and read Dantes blog about his comeback from his break he took off from biking. I thought both blogs were written very well with tons of detail and exitement through out the blog. In carters i liked how he described what the announcers on NFL am thought about the game previous to it and during/ after it, also how he gave his thought on the game and how the bears did, as they offense did very well in the 3rd and 4th quarter. On the other hand while reading dantes blog i like how he described how he was coming off a long break but new he would be fine after training for a couple weeks, i also liked how he described his route whitch he rides his bikes with his group after school through out independece grove. I liked reading both blogs and they were both very unique in there own personal ways.
ReplyDeleteI looked at a lot of people's blogs. One blog that I really enjoyed was Jack Neal's blog that tells stories about his 2 puppies. I think that one of the reasons I liked it so much was because I am a huge fan of dogs and reading about them reminded me of things that my dog has done in the past. I liked the story about his dog's collar getting stuck in the bakers rack and the scared pup knocked the huge thing down and dragged it all over his kitchen, leaving holes in the wall, the items that were on it, and little pieces of poop in his path. Other stories about how one of his dogs has already needed 2 surgeries before he is even one years old was also an interesting read. The dog enjoys eating articles of clothing but they get stuck in his intestines and then he needs surgery. I think that Jack's blog was very interesting and mad me laugh with the stories that were in it.
ReplyDeleteI read Jack Neal's blog about his two Bernese Mountain Dogs. These blogs were very interesting to read and learn about the new weekly struggles him and his family have with their two dogs. I also read about Alison Watson moving senior year. It was interesting to learn about the things that she was doing here, compared to her other school with sports, and pep rallies. For me, I've never moved or had to switch schools so it was interesting to learn about the struggles that she encountered. I also read Jojo Carmichaels Exotic fruits blog. This blog is super funny because she trying something and she doesn't know if it's going to be gross or not. I also like how she uses the fruits in different recipes to try and make them taste better, and actually do something with the fruit instead of just eating it plain. I especially liked the coconut one because you have to put in a ton of work to just get to the inside, and once inside make it taste sugary and not gross plain right out of the coconut. I also thought the videos of everyone trying the gross smoothies and the gross reactions from everyone.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking through the blogs I decided to read Jojo's blog about exotic fruits because I always see her working on it in class and it looks very interesting. After reading just one blog I was already interested in her topic. Her most recent post was about a fruit called the Kiwano Fruit. This is a very odd looking fruit because it has a bright orange outside but a goupy green inside. It was interesting reading about this fruit but my favorite part of the blog was the video she provided of a man eating the fruit. In the video, this old creepy man is cutting up the fruit and taking bites out of it as it drips down his face. As he eats the fruit he acts like it is the best thing he has ever eaten in his life because he makes very creepy moaning noises along with weird faces. Overall, the blog was pretty cool and I kind of want to try some of these exotic fruits myself.
ReplyDeleteI read Ben Kimpler’s Blogs. They were very interesting considering he wrote a little about his game and the game he was watching. He had great description on the game he watched and had most important parts about the game also had the ending scores. He also gave feedback on his previous games. He gave description of how he felt for example his body was sore and bruises or he was exhausted. He made it nice reading because he didn't go straight to the game. He did things at halftime and at the end of the game he gave his own feedback on why things happened or how things could have happened.

ReplyDeleteI read Garrett Feiereisel's blog. I know him, but I didn't know that he was interested in trying out new restaurants and reviewing them. Its cool that he tries out new restaurants while in different parts of the country. He also gave background on the area where the restaurant is, and he talked about what he was doing there. I liked it how he gave his opinion on the restaurant, and also provided a link to a review on more of the dishes that the restaurant has to offer. I also like that he is review a variety of restaurants. He talked about the overall atmosphere in the restaurant also, this could be helpful for people who are in to the looks as well as the food. He described the food with descriptive words that helped get the feel of what the food would look and taste, as if I was eating it.
ReplyDeleteI read Dante's blog about his bike racing. I used to do triathlons so I can relate to many of the experiences Dante faces with travel and some of the training. I found it interesting to see his bike training through a competitive biker's eyes. Reading about how and when he puts more effort or when he eases up a bit was really fascinating as I just biked as fast and as far as I could when I trained. I especially enjoyed to see some of the pictures he took of his training grounds, race day, and the extras like the cabin he stayed in. Overall, Dante's exploration and details about his experiences in biking were interesting and gave me a new perspective on how hard competitive bikers train and especially how hard Dante trains (when he wants to).
ReplyDeleteI read Parijat Tripathi's blog. First of all I am impressed with the topic that he chose (books) because it must be a commitment to read a new book every two weeks. I found all of his posts to be interesting and creative; I didn't get bored while reading it. My favorite part of the blog was definitely his use of voice: it made his blog super funny and personal. Every post made me laugh at some point. He balanced out the humor aspect really well with his in depth analyses and opinions on the different books- I definitely understood what the books were about and where they excelled/fell short in Parijat's opinion. Even if he hated the book, he still made sure to include why some people like it so a reader can see both the positives and negatives regardless of opinion. I also enjoyed how this blog can be relevant to a huge audience as anybody could read the books that he writes about. Overall, this blog was witty, interesting and informative. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI read Jacqui's blog. I really enjoyed her topic and thought it was interesting. I thought the hedgehog post was really interesting. I never thought a hedgehog would be a good pet. She keeps her post interesting and different. I also read Nicole's blog about exotic fruits. I love how she rates her fruit based on different characteristics. It gives the reader a good understanding on what each fruit is like. Her blog really makes me want to try those fruit! The last blog I looked at was Jack Neal's. I opened it because I love Burnese Mountain Dogs and wanted to know more about them. He kept his posts fun and entertaining. His dogs are really cute! His posts seem to tell a story and are very casual. They keep the reader engaged and are very interesting.
ReplyDeleteToday, I read Jacqui Widmark's blog. To be honest, I am in love! On top of the adorable pictures that accompany each post (look at the hedgehogs!), there is a TON of information. Although I think I had a pretty decent idea, I never knew exactly what a hedgehog ate or that cats could have extra toes on their paws. Going with that, I, like Jacqui, think that is so fascinating! I know there are cases of people being born with extra fingers or toes, but I never really thought about that phenomena in animals; I must say, it still looks adorable! I did very much enjoy all of the information because some of those facts are not known by everyone; many people assume they know how to care for certain animals, but they do not actually know until they have to do it. Even more, the videos were so cute, too! Everything about Jacqui's blog just makes me so happy. I mean, who doesn't love animals? Also, her blog is called "Pet Paradise" for a reason. I also appreciate the fact that she is not just choosing animals she likes, but she is actually taking care of these animals for a day or so, and I think that would be so cool.
ReplyDeleteI read Anthony Tubek's blog. I thought they were really cool, as a fan of professional sports myself I love how Anthony captures the excitement of every game. I especially like how he takes us through the play by play run down, it almost feels as if I am at the game watching it. However, since I was not able to access the rest of the blog I started reading Alec Ovassapian's because I know him. I really like the idea of giving T.V. show reviews because it was pretty similar to the book reviews that I did. However, it was really sad that they took Quantico off NBC, I really liked that show and it was cool to see what Alec had to say about the show itself.
ReplyDeleteI just read Jason's blog and he has found tons of cool unique games, but hte one that stood out most was Overwatch. It looks so intense I can't even fathom how cool it is! With unique characters like that it seems like the game to get, and I really want to get it even though I stink at first person shooters. Anyways, Jason does a fantastic job of talking about different types of games and what makes them unique and what stood out to him as well. The games that he chose have a lot of skill attached to them that I can only hope to achieve! I really want to see more from Jason's blog and I'd like to see what other indie games he finds that people have worked really hard on. I really enjoyed his blog and I'll be sure to follow it later on.
ReplyDeleteWe all need to keep in mind that life isn’t all about stress. Reading Taylor’s blog made me realize that everyone, especially me, should take time to enjoy all of the small things in life. From food to Netflix, there are several stress relievers. I especially liked the way Taylor captures the reader’s attention through her tone. Her writing style is very easy to follow and I can relate to her experiences because we all have stress. I must try the things she mentioned in her blog. It was super entertaining reading her experiences, because it opened my eyes to see what I need to take notice of. We all have stress, and this blog not only vanished my stress but also showed me things I can enjoy to keep my mind off of stress. We all must enjoy the little things that we take for granted in our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI read Jack Neal's and Ryan Bever's blogs. I found Ryan's blog about Berlin to be very interesting and it had some really cool pictures to go alongside the text. I have always been a big history person and have wanted to go see Europe for a long time, so getting to read the first hand accounts of someone I know talk about one of the most historic cities in Europe is really cool and interesting. I had never heard or read anything about Germany after WWII or the Cold war and it was very interesting to learn about just how affected they were, even if all I could learn were a few simple facts dropped in his blog. Another cool thing was that Berlin had many similar attractions to New York with a main square, flashing with advertisements, alongside a large public park that really illustrates how Berlin is both an amazing historical site as well as a thriving and vibrant modern city. I would be really interested in reading more about his trip and to learn about what else he had the opportunity to see and do during his trip to Berlin.
ReplyDeleteI decided to read Lindsey Scholz blog about trying different XSport classes. This sparked my interest because I love working out. I have an XSport membership and I am now interested in taking classes. She seemed to enjoy the class overall. I looked at her link to why woman should lift weights and it really got me interested. I personally lift weights three days a week, and people try to tell me that it does noting more than make you look bulky. This website shows me that there are many other benefits. I am going to check out this class at XSport! The next blog I read is Jojo Carmichaels. Her blog is great becuase, being her friend, I can hear her voice in her writing. SHe makes her blog personal and I really like that. I love that she went out of her way to make a video of her family trying her gross drink. I might do that in my next blog. The next blog I checked out was Liv RIchardsons. She is writing about they City as a whole. I personally love spending my time in the city! The blog when she talks about the people on the train and in the station is very interesting. I really enjoy people watching, so, next time I am on the train I am going to check out all the people around me. It is crazy to think that everyone has their own stories, their own places they come from!
ReplyDeleteI read Liv Richardson's blog about her Chicago adventures. Her blog is really interesting and I like it a lot. I love hearing stories about adventures people have been on because most times, I feel like I should try it. I learned some things that I never knew about Union Station before through Liv's blog. I also learned some things about Liv, like the fact that she has been to the loop about one hundred times and isn't sick of it. She also uses her humor and I actually laughed while reading some of her posts because I can just hear her saying it. She also describes the people that she sees and it is true when you think about it, everyone is different. You can really tell that she loves the city. She also writes about the places she has gone to like coffee shops, museums and things like that. She talks about what she likes about them, too. Overall it was really interesting and I loved reading it.
ReplyDeleteThe blog that I chose to focus on was “The Gaming Corner” by Jason Daluga. He compared and contrasted various video games that I have played before, myself. His first blog discussed one of my favorite game franchises: Super Smash Bros. While the controls of the games that he talks about are never mentioned, the reader is still able to get a general idea of what the game is and how it is played from his remarkable detail and insertion of gameplay footage. Two of the most notable things that he does, in all five of his blogs, are: capture the reader’s attention early on and show his voice. If someone were to read his blog without having known him before, they would certainly be able to acquire some idea of his personality. His hooks always mention his favorite aspects of the game so that the reader feels motivated to continue reading. In his most recent post, he discusses the game, Mark of the Ninja, instantly opening with his favorite parts about the game. Reading his blogs was actually rather exciting and I congratulate him on his work.
ReplyDeleteThe first blog I read was by Jojo Carmichael. I read her exotic fruit blog about coconuts. I thought it was really funny the way she worded things, and made it very casual. I also enjoyed how she made something with her exotic fruit. My blog is also about exotic fruits and I never thought of actually making something out of the fruit, I might use that idea for my next blog. It was also cool seeing everyone try the smoothie to get more than one perspective on how the drink tasted. Overall her blog was really funny, and entertaining. After reading Jojo's I read, Julia Neiweem's blog about movies. I thought it was interesting because she didn't just write about one movie, she would compare sequels to the first movie, and talk about which one is better. I read her post specifically about Cheetah Girls 1 and 2 because I love those movies! She made really good points about the movies and how they transitioned well from the first into the second. I also really liked the videos she included because you get to see the actual movies. Now after reading that I really want to go watch all the Cheetah Girl movies! Overall I think her whole blog is great and love the unique take on comparing the movies.
ReplyDeleteToday I read Andrew Finks blogs about wood shop. Since I tried to take wood shop last year, but was unable to because it was full I was very interested to hear about what the class is all about and what I was missing out on. I liked how Andrew talks about his Eagle Scout project and how he is incorporating that into his class. He is right, the table with bending legs looks absolutely amazing and i am very jealous that I do not have the opportunity to try and make one. He also talked about multiple cutting boards that he had made. One being for a former teacher and another being for fun. It was so astonishing that he was able to create such a high end cutting board and call it a basic project. But then again he does not cut any corners. The second, 3D board that he made looks very cool with the three kinds of wood and the hexagon shapes that make up the board. By reading his blogs he made me very jealous that I did not take woods and be able to make very useful things such as the ones he made.
ReplyDeleteToday I read Taylor Sloan's blog. I thought it was really amazing. The fact that she felt comfortable about talking about how she de-stress is so cool. I have actually been looking for different ways to help me get through my problems so reading her blogs were beneficial to me. Not to mentions she was funny at times in her blog. I really enjoyed the ending of the food one how it listed food and what they will do for you. That part was funny. Having that video about how to make bath bombs might be helpful in the future. I am definitely going to give that a try. Also I love how all her blogs start with a quote that is going to go along with that blog. It feel like it is a nice little sneak peek to what you are about to read. Not to mention many times the quotes are either really funny or interesting. I didn’t look at any of the videos yet, but I am going to when I have free time and earbuds. I also like how her blog is laid out. I just copy and past my urls but she talks about the blog and then when it comes to article she says click here. It is much more free flowing I feel like and just looks nicer. I am going to try that technique I think next time in my article. I think it would also be funny if for my next article I do what she mentions about writing a story and write a story about my experience with cooking food. I have always enjoyed reading what Taylor writes so I will definitely be excited to hear that story at writers week.
ReplyDeleteI read jack neal's blogs because I have never had dogs of my own so it made me wonder what raising one is like. I liked how he described everything in great deal as if it was happening right in front of him. His voice comes through well and overall, the blogs have a funny and positive tone to them. I never would have guessed that raising two dogs of any breed would be so much hassle. However, it is clear how much he loves them and that he would do anything for them.
ReplyDeleteSo I read Parijat's book reviews and Jack Neal's blog about dogs. First I'll talk about Parijat's blog. I liked the variety of books that he read. He read a solid group of classic books, though I had never heard of the book that was written by Voltaire. Regardless, I could really see his voice coming through in his writings. My favorite review on his blog was the one on Oliver Twist. I thought it was a clever comparison to relate Oliver twist to Rappers in the music industry. This made this review unique compared to what you would expect to find in a generic book review. I also agree with his review of Catcher in the Rye because I could definitely sympathize with Holden, I just didn't really care that much for the book. Jack Neal's blog was also very good. I liked how he recounted how the dogs were adapting to family life. I could identify with this blog because my family has a dog that get's itself into various different shenanigans as well.
ReplyDeleteI read Grant Wagner's blog, The Thrifters, which was about various costume competitions that took place at Goodwill. There were specific rules for the competition that made it much more accessible, like a thirty dollar limit on costumes, but for the most part it was very laid back and casual competition. I read the first two entries and found them very amusing. This was a very creative idea that looked like a lot of fun to try. As a friend of Grant I was invited to these but sadly could never go, but seeing this blog made me wish I found the time to. It was funny to read how grant tried to describe the costumes as if they were high end fashion statements or well made costumes instead of the hilarious things they strung together at Goodwill. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading the blog and maybe next year will try and attend some of these if they become annual.
ReplyDeleteI read Julia Neiweem's blog. I like her topic about comparing movies and found it very interesting. I liked reading about her opinion on movies that I personally have my own opinions about. Her reasoning's for why she preferred one over the other was intriguing. I especially liked how she used clips from her favorite parts of the movies she was comparing to further explain why she like the film. They added a nice touch to her descriptions. I think her blog would be super helpful to someone who is interested in watching one of these movies but isn't 100% sure, or if someone is thinking about watching the sequel they can look at this to see if it is worth the time. Overall, I really enjoyed reading her blog, and I think she should definitely compare the High School Musical movies next!!
